The blonde witch (also The girl from the forest ; original title: La Sorcière ) is a French-Swedish fictional film ( 1956 ) directed by André Michel. Marina Vlady (Ina), Nicole Courcel (Kristina) and Maurice Ronet (Laurent) play the leading roles . The plot is based on the novella Olessja by Alexander Ivanovich Kuprin , but takes place differently in Sweden.
action
In Sweden, French engineer Laurent Brulard faces difficulties at work and a world of superstition from residents of a remote region. However, he finds support from the landowner Kristina, with whom he works and who is in love with him. One day he gets lost in the forest and threatens to sink into the quicksand, but is saved by an old woman who brings him to her hut. There he meets her granddaughter Ina. He falls under the spell of the young savages and takes care of their training, which makes Kristina jealous. When Laurent Ina wants to introduce the people in the village, the pious people react with hatred for the girl. The women of the village begin to lynch Ina in front of the church. Kristina rides up and drives the women away with a riding whip. Thanks to the intervention, Ina can tear herself away, but then she is hit by a thrown stone. Fatally injured, Ina drags herself into the forest, where she dies.
background
The film was a co-production of the Swedish company Nordisk Tonefilm with Metzger et Woog and Productions Iena from France.
In 2008, Jokers edition released a DVD with mono sound partly in German synchronization with occasionally embedded German subtitles. In other words, what was originally spoken in Swedish was not dubbed and only rarely subtitled.
Awards
The blonde witch received the Silver Bear at the 1956 Berlinale for a special artistic achievement (“2nd Prize”).
