Jacques Companéez

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jacques Companéez (born March 5, 1906 in Nischyn , Ukraine , † September 15, 1956 in Paris , France ) was a French screenwriter of Russian-Jewish origin.

Life

Jacques Companéez was the son of a Jewish emigrant from the Ukrainian province of Russia and initially worked as a dialogue author in Germany and Czechoslovakia. After the National Socialists came to power, he fled to France and was in great demand there as a writer of entertainment films, despite his initially very inadequate language skills. After the German occupation of France, Companéez had to go underground, but continued to write scripts during this time. Most of the films that were made based on his originals, including some after the war in Germany and Austria, did not achieve any major significance, a notable exception being “ Goldhelm ”, directed by Jacques Becker . Companéez's daughter is the director Nina Companéez .
