André Mocquereau

André Mocquereau OSB (* 6. June 1849 in La Tessoualle , department of Maine-et-Loire ; † 18th January 1930 in Solesmes , Sarthe ) was a Benedictine monk of between Angers and Le Mans in north-western France situated Abbey of Saint Peter (Saint -Pierre) in Solesmes. He had initially been trained as a businessman. In 1875 he entered the monastery. His main focus was the study of Gregorian chant . He was editor of the Paléographie musicale . He and the Benedictine monk Joseph Gajard (1885–1972) belong to the so-called Old School of Solesmes in terms of performance practice and interpretation of Gregorian chant .
