André Potocki

André Potocki (born June 21, 1950 in Lyon ) is a French lawyer and judge at the European Court of Human Rights .

Live and act

Potocki studied law at the University of Paris II , where he obtained his law degree in 1973. In 1975 he graduated from the École nationale de la magistrature . He then served as a judge at courts in Ribérac , Angoulême and Senlis . From 1984 he worked as secrétaire général for the President of the Tribunal de grande instance de Paris, the Paris Court of Appeals and the Court of Cassation . From 1990 he was himself Vice-President of the Tribunal de grande instance de Paris, and since 1994 a judge at the Paris Court of Appeal. Since 1994 Potocki is Associate Professor of the law of the European Community at the University of Paris X . From 1995 to 2001 he was a judge at the General Court of the European Union . From 2002 to 2006 he was Vice-President of the Council of Europe Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ). From 2005 to 2011 he was a judge at the French Court of Cassation.

In June 2011 he was elected judge at the European Court of Human Rights to succeed Jean-Paul Costa as representative of France . Potocki began his term of office, which is expected to last until 2020, on November 4, 2011.
