Andrés de Zabala
Andrés de Zabala or just Andrés Zabala (baptized November 30, 1704 in Eibar , Basque Country ; † February 15, 1780 in Jaén , Andalusia ) was a Spanish baroque architect and stonemason who worked in various cities in Andalusia around the middle of the 18th century.
life and work
Little is known about the life of Andrés de Zabala: In 1724 he went to Andalusia and from 1756 a marriage with the widowed Doña Catalina Escobar y Carrasco is documented. From 1759 he lived and worked in the city of Estepa for several years . On October 25, 1767 he joined the Third Order of the Franciscans there . He lived in Jaén from 1768 until his death.
His work is a little better documented; it essentially comprises church facades and tower completions, whereby he initially worked with other architects. His work includes:
- Contribution to the portal facade of the Real Colégio de San Telmo , Seville (1733)
- Renewal of the portal of the Church of San Juán , Écija (1756)
- Construction of the sacristy and the camarín of the Nuestra Señora de los Remedios church , Estepa (1760)
- Completion of the Torre de la Victoria , Estepa (1760–66)
- Portal facade of the church Iglesia del Carmen , Estepa (around 1767)
- Portal facade of the Cambil Hospital (1769)
