Andrea Cozzolino

Andrea Cozzolino (born August 3, 1962 in Naples ) is an Italian politician of the Partito Democratico (PD) and has been a member of the European Parliament since the 2009 European elections .

Life

Cozzolino was politically active from an early age and at the end of the 1970s was one of the founders of the Associazione degli studenti napoletani contro la camorra , a student organization directed against the Camorra . He became a member of the Federazione Giovanile Comunista Italiana , the youth organization of the Partito Comunista Italiano (PCI). 1983 to 1986 he was their provincial secretary for Naples, then for the entire Mezzogiorno . From 1994 to 1999 he was the Neapolitan provincial secretary of the Partito Democratico della Sinistra (PDS) or the Democratici di Sinistra (DS), as the PCI was called from 1991 and 1998.

In 2000 he was elected to the regional parliament of Campania for the DS . Here he was deputy chairman of the regional committee until 2005 and from 2005 to 2009 department head of the regional government for industry and agriculture. In 2007 he was a member of the constituent assembly of the Partito Democratico (PD), which emerged from the merger of the DS with other parties.

In the European elections in Italy in 2009 Cozzolino was the European Parliament voted, where he joined the group S & D is a member. He is a member of the Committee on Budgets , the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs , the Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean and the Delegation for relations with Afghanistan . Cozzolino is deputy in the delegation for relations with the Mashreq countries , in the Committee on Transport and Tourism and in the Committee on Regional Development .

On January 23, 2011, Cozzolino won the center-left alliance primary for the mayoral elections in Naples. His competitors protested, however, and accused him of buying votes.
