Andrea Fischer (born September 3, 1973 in St. Johann in Tirol ) is a glacier researcher. Since 2011 she has been a private lecturer at the University of Innsbruck and senior researcher at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Mountain Research of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Innsbruck. In 2014 she was elected a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

science

Andrea Fischer studied physics and environmental systems science at the University of Graz from 1991 to 1999 . From 1999 to 2003 she completed her doctorate at the Institute for Meteorology and Geophysics at the University of Innsbruck ; She wrote her dissertation on 'Icedynamics of Vatnajökull investigated by means of ERS-SAR interferometry'.

After completing her doctorate in 2003, Andrea Fischer stayed at the university for a few years, first as a project employee, then as a project manager. In 2010 she moved to the Institute for Interdisciplinary Mountain Research of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, which she is currently acting as head.

In 2011 she was awarded the license to teach by the University of Innsbruck .

Andrea Fischer is the national correspondent of the World Glacier Monitoring Service, board member of the Austrian Geophysical Society and was head of the glacier measuring service of the Austrian Alpine Association until 2016 .

Her areas of work are glaciology, climatology and mountain research, mainly in the Alpine region, but also in Asia, Africa and South America. Andrea Fischer's wide-ranging research projects deal not only with purely scientific topics (e.g. long-term monitoring of various Austrian glaciers and rock glaciers), but also with practical aspects such as the effects of snow farming and summer coverings in glacier ski areas or the possibilities and consequences of artificial snow production.
