Franz Xaver Schmerbeck

Franz Xaver Schmerbeck (born June 24, 1894 in Karlsruhe ; † June 22, 1973 there ) was a German teacher and local politician.

Career

Schmerbeck was born the son of a master tailor. After graduating from high school, he trained as a trade teacher. In 1920 he wrote a textbook that was printed with an edition of 40,000 copies. In 1919 he became a member of the Windthorstbund . He played a key role in setting up the organization in the state of Baden and was ultimately elected regional leader. From 1925 he was a city councilor and from 1933 a city councilor in Karlsruhe.

At Easter 1934 he was transferred to Schopfheim, in 1937 to Mannheim. When the war broke out, he was obliged to serve in the army administration. After a brief prisoner-of-war period, he was appointed mayor of Buchen from September 1945 to September 1946 , and in 1946 he was elected district administrator of the district of Buchen . Health reasons led to the resignation of this office and to retirement in 1964.
