Andrea Winkler (* 1975 in Zurich ) is a Swiss artist who lives and works in Berlin and Hamburg . She works in the media of collage , photography and installation .
Life
Andrea Winkler attended the Hamburg University of Fine Arts from 1996 to 2001, where she studied under Wolfgang Tillmans , Cerith Wyn Evans and Gisela Bullacher. From 2001 to 2003 she attended the Slade School of Fine Art in London.

Andrea Winkler's work is characterized by the seemingly effortless connection of various elements such as the site-specific installation with the objet trouvé and the sculpture. In their exhibitions, scenic choreographies are created from objects, bollards and chains, wall paintings and photography, which are linked to one another through precise placement in the room to form a course.
Barrier posts and the associated chains, with which Winkler deepens the concept of the spatial collage, structure the exhibition area and appear like a kind of guidance system from hotel lobbies, trade fairs or airport operations. The pillars are either connected to one another or run into the void of the white wall using simple chain elements from professional decoration needs. Seeming arbitrary at first glance, they form a temporary set of rules, as an optional space delimitation for the imaginary in front of or behind. It is up to those who walk through whether to follow the path restrictions set by Winkler or to exceed the limit. At the moment of expectation and amazement, the viewer will also perceive the abstract, symbolic spray markings on the gallery walls. These behave similarly to the chain elements in space. Its course is delicate remnants, markings and lines that run through the entire installation. At this point, the graphic idea on which some of Andrea Winkler's works are based and which has extended to three-dimensional space becomes clear.
Andrea Winkler's approach captivates with its simplicity and lightness, with which she places a wide variety of formal and material elements in a new context, opening up a space of association that evokes moments of expectation, loss and desire in its fleetingness.
