Andreas Akerman

Andreas Akerman and Anders Akerman ; Swedish Andreas Åkerman also Anders Åkerman (* 1723 probably in Halla in the province of Södermanland , † 1778 in Uppsala ) was a Swedish engraver and manufacturer of globes .

Life

School and study time

After attending the trivial school in Strängnäs from 1739 to 1747 , he was registered as Matheseos Studiosus and Natio Sudermann at the University of Uppsala without having obtained a final university degree.

Professional and entrepreneurial career

As a member of the Cosmographic Society of Uppsala University , founded in 1758 by professors and lecturers, including Torbern Olof Bergman (1735–1784), his workshop, which was founded around 1750, copied globes and, from 1758, made globes for the Cosmographic Society and exported them abroad. When making the globes, he took into account the calculations of the English astronomer John Flamsteed (1646–1719) and the French astronomer Nicolas Louis de Lacaille (1713–1762)

Despite government support, the manufacture of globes was not profitable and the company was liquidated in the mid-19th century.
