Andrea Lancelotto Avellino CRth , also Latinized as Andreas Avellinus , in the German-speaking area also Andreas Avellino (* 1521 in Castronuovo di Sant'Andrea in the province of Potenza ; † November 10, 1608 in Naples ) was an Italian order priest of the Theatine order . He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church .

Life

Andrea Avellino studied law and then represented cases before the ecclesiastical court . In 1556 he joined the Theatine Order, which was newly founded at that time, and from then on worked as a missionary and preacher throughout Italy . Within the order he was very respected and also held high offices, for a time he held the office of general of the order . Andrea Avellino died of a stroke while he was reading Holy Mass .

Adoration

Andrea Avellino's tomb is in the Church of San Paolo Maggiore in Naples. Avellino was beatified by Pope Urban VIII in 1624 , and by Pope Clement XI in 1712 . canonized. His feast day is November 10th.

The surveyor André Trudeau, a nephew of Louis-Joseph Papineau (1786–1871), founded the parish of Saint-André-Avellin near Québec in Canada in 1855 .
