Andreas Brunner (politician)

Andreas Brunner (born May 2, 1923 in Obstalden GL ; † January 22, 1988 in Zug ) was a Swiss politician .

Andreas Brunner was born as the son of Emil Brunner. He attended schools in Zurich and studied law in Bern and Zurich, where he in 1948 to Dr. iur. received his doctorate . This was followed by a degree in economics in the USA. There he took over the reorganization of a paper company from 1950 to 1955.

Through the marriage of Elisabeth Gyr, the daughter of Dr. Karl Heinrich Gyr, he joined the family company Landis & Gyr . In 1956 Brunner became finance director and board member in Zug as well as reorganizer of corporate finances. From 1966 onwards, Brunner worked in the newly created group management, and from 1972 to 1984 he was its chairman.

From 1959 to 1974 Brunner was a member of the Zug cantons of the FDP , and from 1968 to 1975 a member of the National Council , in which function he participated in the reform of the company law. From 1972 to 1974 he was the majority shareholder of the Luzerner Tagblatt . As a politician, he was particularly involved in social security, which is why he was not re-elected to the National Council. In his place, the SP Government Councilor Thomas Fraefel was elected as the Zug representative.
