life and work

Andreas Cyrenius gained his first professional experience as a directing and dramaturgy intern at the State Opera and at the Hanover Theater . There he worked under Nigel Lowery , Xavier Zuber and Christian Pade . From 2002 to 2008 Cyrenius studied film directing in the film class of Professor Uwe Schrader in the fine arts department of the Hanover University of Applied Sciences . During this time, numerous short films and music videos were made, which among other things enabled him to participate several times in the "Workshop of the Young Film Scene in the Federal Association of Youth and Film eV". Bert Strebe from the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung wrote in April 2004 about the short film premiere of the film class:

"Perhaps the most impressive film is Andreas Cyrenius' Tabu", which deals with a mother-son relationship. The camera only seems to be observing them by chance, and director Cyrenius skilfully avoids the risk of becoming embarrassing or overly voyeuristic. "

Cyrenius was able to successfully sell his second short film , the comedy "Showtime", to the "Mini Movie Channel" via the Hamburg short film agency. On April 8, 2005 his music video "Motor Mouth Babe" by the German band "The Woodbrothers" premiered in the TV magazine Kulturzeit . In summer 2006 Cyrenius notorious led Dogma film "Bangbus" discussions between Hanover film students. In it, he describes the consequences of an oversexualized society with unusual intensity. Florian Rinke wrote in the Prinz (Magazin) Hannover June 2006:

"Director Andreas Cyrenius was confronted with the question of why men derive satisfaction from the contemptuous treatment of women. His film does not provide any answers. (...) The viewer is left alone with the hustle and bustle of the perpetrators in the bus and is thus forced to take a stand to acquire."

Cyrenius commented on the model character of his story as follows:

"Most discussions miss the content. It is actually a film about the suffering of women. Men are the victims of their own deeds, unable to love and emotionally insane. As so often, they deny their natural desire for destruction, their so-called aggression instinct and ask not why. Women do. That is why, paradoxically, so many women like my film. Because it holds up a mirror to men. "

So wrote the social psychologist I. Hannemann from the campus magazine "Eisbergonline" on June 26, 2006:

"(...) associatively disreputable ambush of a clearly ambiguous prelude between Bergman and Pasolini , as if stuck on a flypaper. The film class Uwe Schrader, who with the film" Bangbus "by the Hanoverian student Andreas Cyrenius, created a completely new understanding of the visual arts Has taken visor. "

In the summer of 2008 Cyrenius graduated with a degree in film directing .

In 2011 he was elected to the state capital's theater advisory board for 4 years by the Free Theaters in Hanover. Together with 5 other members, Cyrenius will decide on applications for basic and production funding for the independent theater scene in Hanover and make a recommendation to the culture committee. The advisory board has the task of allocating funding according to artistic, cultural-educational and specific cultural aspects.

Cyrenius lives and works as a freelance director and screenwriter in Hanover .
