Andreas Gering (* 5. May 1892 in Nuremberg ; † 29. December 1957 ibid ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

After training as a graphic artist he visited in Nuremberg art school (now the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg ) and then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich under Carl Johann Becker-Gundahl . During the First World War , Gering was buried in a bomb attack and recovered seriously injured. Since this experience he had to struggle with speech disorders and only found his way back to normal language after a long time. The war experiences later influenced his graphic work.

After the war, Andreas Gering settled in Nuremberg as a freelance artist. His study trips took him to Serbia and Macedonia . From 1920 he worked as a teacher at the Open Drawing Room (the forerunner institution of the Georg-Simon-Ohm University ) in Nuremberg and from 1921 as head of the nude class at the Nuremberg vocational school. In 1927 Gering became a civil servant and in 1932 took the office of the city councilor. Until his retirement on June 1, 1957, he worked in the service of the city.

As a freelance artist , Gering was a member of the Association of Nuremberg Artists and Craftsmen and a member of the Nuremberg Secession .

Andreas Gering mainly painted in watercolor , occasionally also in oil. In terms of motifs, he preferred landscapes, and later nudes also biblical themes. His lithographs and etchings show that the First World War did not leave the artist's soul unaffected . Sheets from the field sketchbook, motifs such as earth, death or redemption thematize the weaponry and reveal the confident observer and draftsman in Gering. Portfolio works in the possession of the museums of the city of Nuremberg: “Leben u. Death ”(1919), field drawings (1914–1918, lithographs),“ Die Erde ”(1921, etchings).
