Andreas Iris

Andreas Iris (also: Rainbow ; * 1540 in Hildesheim ; † December 2, 1600 in Königsberg (Prussia) ) was a German poet, ethnologist , historian and philosopher.

Life

Andreas matriculated as Andreas Regenbogen in the winter semester of 1557 at the University of Erfurt . Here he received his bachelor's degree in 1559 and in 1561 became a master of philosophy. After giving lectures on philosophy in Erfurt for nine years, in 1568 he went to the pedagogy in Königsberg as archipagogue (rector). 1572 appointed him Konigsberg University for professor of poetry and ethics. In 1579 he was given the professorship of ethics and history.

In 1592 he became the first professor of practical philosophy in Königsberg. He was assessor of the Samland consistory and in 1592 official of the same. He also took part in the organizational tasks of the Königsberg University and was rector of the Alma Mater in the summer semesters 1579, 1583, 1586, 1591 and 1597 . In the winter semester of 1579/80 he was Vice Rector. Only one disputation “ de jure naturali et positivo ” has survived from his works .

Iris' daughter Agnes married the theologian Georg Mylius (theologian, 1567) in Königsberg on September 6, 1596 .
