Georg Mylius (theologian, 1567)

Georg Mylius (also: Möller ; * May 22, 1567 in Heiligenbeil ; † March 1, 1626 in Königsberg (Prussia) ) was a German Lutheran theologian.

Life

The son of councilor Peter Möller and his wife Rosina had attended school in his hometown and began studying at the University of Königsberg . In 1592 he became sub-inspector and sub-teacher at the pedagogy and in 1594 acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophical sciences at the Königsberg University. In 1595 he took over the management of the education department there as an archipagogue. In doing so, he had earned so much recognition that he was appointed full professor of the Hebrew language at the Königsberg University in 1598 . In 1606 he became an assessor at the Königsberg consistory , in 1609 a deacon at the cathedral in Kneiphof and on November 20, 1613 pastor there.

After resigning his Hebrew professorship, he became the second full professor of theology in Konigsberg in 1614, and was the first to acquire a higher academic degree in Konigsberg as a licentiate in theology on January 26, 1624, but died after a brief period in this office. Mylius also took part in the organizational tasks of the Königsberg University. As a representative of the philosophical faculty in the summer semester 1609 and as a representative of the theological faculty in the winter semesters 1615/16, 1619/20 and 1624/25 he was rector of the Alma Mater .

family

Mylius had married Agnes, the daughter of the Königsberg professor Andreas Iris , on September 6, 1596 . The marriage resulted in nine children. We know of these children:

  • Agnes (* 1603; † 1641) married. 1624 with the pastor in Rossgarten's Georg Weissel (* 1590; † August 1, 1635)
  • Andreas Mylius (1606–1649)
  • Sophia Mylius married with the court preacher in Courland D. Daniel Hafftstein
  • Justina Mylius married November 16, 1626 with the rector of the Königsberg Cathedral School Johann Babatius (* July 16, 1595 - † March 3, 1640)
