Life

The son of Hans Ligsalz and Katharina Korall was married to Apollonia Ridler. The Ligsalz family has been one of the most important civil families in Munich since the 13th century . The family name Ligsalz can be traced back to the salt trade. Andreas Ligsalz himself traded in iron, salt and cloth and ran a branch of his business in Antwerp . In 1523 and 1526 Andreas was a member of the Outer Council of the City of Munich, and in 1527 he was a member of the Inner Council of the city, of which he was a member from May 11, 1530 as a replacement for his deceased brother Karl until 1557. Bonds to the city of Antwerp, the governor of the Netherlands and the kings of Spain , England and France ultimately drove him into bankruptcy in 1561. He died in Munich in 1564.

His son Andreas Ligsalz (the younger) is mentioned as the carer of the Heiliggeist Hospital in Munich. The Ligsalz family was ennobled in 1583. Hofmark Ascholding was owned by the family as early as 1469 .
