Andreas Martini , also: Martens, Martinus (* around 1520 in Rostock ; † September 25, 1561 ibid) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

Martini began studying at the University of Rostock in 1534 and moved to the University of Wittenberg in 1538 . After obtaining the master’s degree in philosophy there in 1548, he accompanied David Chyträus on an educational trip through Switzerland and Italy until 1550 . On July 18, 1551 he was accepted into the senate of the philosophical faculty of the Wittenberg University and in 1552 followed a call as professor of philosophy at the University of Rostock, where he was also accepted as a preacher at the St. Jakob Church .

After he had been dean of the philosophical faculty in the winter semester of 1555 , a heated argument came to a head at Easter 1556 over the dismissal of the preacher Peter Egger with the Rostock council, in which he was involved. After Egger and Tilemann Hesshus were expelled from Rostock, there was another dispute with the council, at which Martini was removed from office on October 11, 1557. Then Martini went to Denmark to Christian III. and there became the third court preacher in Kolding .

In 1559 he returned to Rostock, found a job as a deacon at the St. Jakob Church and became a city professor again. In this office he led the rectorate of the university in 1559 . When there was a dispute against Johann Draconites and in 1560 against Johannes Kittelius (Johann Kittel; 1519–1590), he became a relentless spokesman. In 1561 he was appointed pastor at the Marienkirche and professor of theology of the council. However, he had no effect in this position because he died that same year.

He was married to the daughter of the Rostock council member Nicolaus Runge.
