Andreas Schurig (* 1958 in Dresden ) is a German mathematician , theologian and data protection expert .

Life

Schurig studied mathematics from 1978 to 1983 at the TU Dresden and from 1983 to 1989 theology at the Church University of Leipzig and at the Philosophical-Theological Studies in Erfurt . In 1989 he was a co-founder of the Social Democratic Party in the GDR in Leipzig. From 1990 to 1993, Schurig moved to the branch of the communal community center in Leipzig City Hall as a consultant .

From 1993 to 2003 he was deputy of the Saxon data protection officer and head of department for IT, technology and new media. Since 2004 he has been the state data protection officer of Saxony . The official inauguration took place on January 20, 2004. He replaced his predecessor Thomas Giesen , who held the position for twelve years. In 2009 and 2015 he was re-elected as the Saxon data protection officer.

Schurig was in council Meissen member of the SPD / Greens - fraction , then voluntarily put but because of his appointment as Saxon Data Protection Supervisor his mandate.

On January 1, 2020, Schurig took over the one-year chairmanship of the German data protection conference .
