Andreas Vilcinskas

Andreas Vilcinskas (born January 4, 1964 in Kaiserslautern ) is a German zoologist , researcher and university professor . His research areas are biochemistry , developmental biology and immunology of insects.

Life

In 1984 Andreas Vilcinskas began studying biology at the University of Kaiserslautern and at the Free University of Berlin , which he graduated with a diploma in 1990. After completing his studies, he worked for a year as a research assistant at the Fisheries Office in Berlin before he worked as a doctoral candidate and young scholarship holder at the Institute for Zoology at the FU in 1992 and received his doctorate in 1994 . Andreas Vilcinskas stayed at the institute as a research assistant and completed his habilitation there in 1998. Between 1994 and 2004 he was a visiting professor for evolutionary biology and special zoology at the University of Potsdam and then moved to the Justus Liebig University in Giessen as a full professor for applied entomology . At the same time, Andreas Vilcinskas was managing director of the Institute for Phytopathology and Applied Zoology at the Interdisciplinary Research Center (IFZ) of the University of Gießen from 2006 to 2013 and, since 2009, head of the Fraunhofer Project Group Bioresources in the Technology and Innovation Center ( TIG ) Gießen. In 2011, Andreas Vilcinskas became coordinator and spokesman for the LOEWE focus (from 2014 LOEWE center) “ Insect Biotechnology ”.
