Andreas Vonkilch (born August 27, 1973 in Mödling , Austria ) is an Austrian lawyer and university professor at the Institute for Civil Law at the University of Innsbruck .

Education and professional career

Vonkilch studied law at the University of Vienna . In 1995 he graduated with a master's degree, and in 1999 received a doctorate in law. He wrote his dissertation on the subject of “Intertemporal Private Law”. He worked as a university assistant at the Institute for Civil Law at the University of Vienna, where he completed his habilitation in 2004 ( venia docendi for the subject of civil law). In October 2004 he was appointed associate professor at the Institute for Civil Law at the University of Vienna.

Vonkilch has been a regular member of expert commissions of the Federal Ministry of Justice for the preparation of reforms of Austrian civil law as well as chairman of the research advisory board of the Research Society for Housing, Building and Planning (FGW) since 2002 . He has also been an Of Counsel at a Viennese law firm since 2008 . In 2014 Vonkilch accepted a call to the University of Innsbruck, where he has been a university professor for civil law ever since.

Vonkilch is married and has one daughter.

Research priorities

Vonkilch's research covers all areas of Austrian private law, in particular contract, consumer protection and insurance law, financial services law, and residential and real estate law. The currently most significant of Vonkilch's numerous research projects is the third edition of the sound commentary on the General Civil Code , which he co-edited .

One focus of his research is in the area of ​​residential and real estate law. He is co-editor of commentaries on tenancy and residential property law, editor of the housing law sheets (wobl) and editor of the yearbook housing law. After accepting the call to Innsbruck, he and his faculty colleague Martin Häublein launched the Innsbruck Housing Law Dialogue (IWD) series of events to exchange ideas between the university and practice on questions of housing and real estate law . He is the conference leader of the Austrian Housing Rights Days, which have been held annually in Vienna since 2018.
