Andreas Warler (born August 26, 1965 in Baasem ) is a German organist and church musician .

Live and act

In his youth he learned to play the organ himself . After graduating from high school, which he took in 1986 at the Steinfelder Hermann-Josef-Kolleg, he joined the order of the Salvatorians . While studying theology in Passau, the Passau cathedral organist Walther R. Schuster discovered his talent and encouraged him through private lessons. He entrusted him to play the organ in church services and within cathedral tours on the basis of what was then the largest church organ in the world.

Andreas Warler began studying church music in 1989 at the St. Gregorius House Church Music School in Aachen. At the same time he was appointed organist at the basilica of the Steinfeld monastery , which has one of the most important historical baroque organs in the Rhineland with its König organ from 1727. As a student of Viktor Scholz (organ) and the Aachen cathedral organist Norbert Richtsteig (improvisation), he passed the church music B-exam after three years in 1992 with the rating “very good” in organ literature playing and improvisation.

From 1992 to 2019 he was the organizer and artistic director of the "Steinfelder Vesperkonzerte" with the well-known and initiated "International Organ Summer". In 1996 Warler went to intensive study with Craig Cramer at the University of Notre Dame in the USA. In 2011 he left the congregation, but stayed as organist at the Steinfeld Basilica. Since 2014 he has been conducting courses in improvisation and liturgical organ playing for church musicians as part of the advanced training measures of the Aachen diocese.

On January 1, 2019, he finished his service as organist at the Steinfeld basilica and moved to the "Community of Parishes" Hellenthal-Schleiden, where he is now organist of the Schleiden Castle Church and as a GdG musician for the entire GdG Hellenthal-Schleiden. There he looks after the historic König organ in the palace church ( Christian Ludwig König , 1770, II / 30), the large Weimbs organs in Hellenthal (1986, III / 32) and Schleiden-Gemünd (1973, III / 36).

So far he has recorded eleven CDs on the König organ of the Steinfeld basilica - including together with the choir and orchestra at the Steinfeld basilica - and has participated in many radio and television productions for the WDR and the Belgian broadcasting company RTBF . Since then, concerts have taken him to Germany, Belgium, Great Britain, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA. He was invited as a guest organist at organ festivals, 2004 after running (Switzerland), 2006 and 2012 for the International Organ Summer of Reykjavík and Christopher Summer Festival 2006 by Vilnius , 2009 to Bastogne (Belgium), 2010 to the International Summer Organ of the Cathedral of Haarlem (Netherlands ), 2013 and 2016 to San Diego, California (USA). Since 2015 he has been a guest at the Cathedral of Luxembourg every year.
