Norbert Richtsteig

Norbert Richtsteig (* 1948 in Rheinberg , Ndrh.) Is a German church musician , university professor and former cathedral organist at Aachen Cathedral .

Richtsteig comes from a family of organists and grew up in Kamp-Lintfort . At the age of eight he was already replacing his father on the organ. After studying church music at the St.-Gregorius-Haus church music school in Aachen as a student of Herbert Voss, which he completed in 1969 with the A-exam with distinction in improvisation, further studies followed with Michael Schneider in Cologne as well as interpretation courses with André Isoir , Peter Planyavsky and Ludger Lohmann . He later became a lecturer in organ improvisation and literature at the Catholic University for Church Music St. Gregorius in Aachen until it closed. In 1974 he took over the management of the Cappella Aquensis as interim conductor . From 1987 to 2013 Richtsteig was cathedral organist in Aachen. He also gave numerous organ concerts at home and abroad; there were also radio recordings and CD productions with organ literature and improvisation. In 2007 he received the honorary title of Episcopal Church Music Director .
