Life

Andreas was the third son of King Andreas II of Hungary and Gertrud von Meran-Andechs . In 1218 he was to marry Isabella , the daughter of King Leo II of Cilicia , to become heir apparent there. However, King Leo died soon after and the marriage did not materialize.

In 1221 Andreas married Maria, the daughter of Prince Mstislaw von Halitsch, after he had made peace with his father Andreas II. In 1226 Andreas got the partial principality of Peremyschl from Mstislav, in 1227 the entire principality of Halitsch. Soon afterwards Mstislaw planned to recapture Halitsch with the support of Prince Daniel Romanowitsch of Galicia and the Polowzians , but he died in 1228. Andreas had the support of the boyars , Daniel that of the population.

In 1229 Daniel defeated Andreas and became Prince of Halitsch. In 1231 Andreas was able to recapture the principality, but was defeated by Daniel again in 1233 or 1234 and died shortly afterwards.
