Andrei Wladimirowitsch Lutai (Russian Андрей Владимирович Лутай, born July 24, 1986 in Belgorod , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian figure skater who starts in a single run .

Lutai started figure skating in 1991. He has two siblings who were also sent to figure skating by his mother, a speech therapist in kindergarten. His sister Jelena, who is 15 years older than him, is a figure skating trainer and was his trainer until he was 12 years old. His brother Alexander works as a manager in a company. After the ice rink in his hometown of Belgorod was closed, he went to Samara for a year before moving to Saint Petersburg in 2001 to train with Alexei Mishin and his wife Tatyana at the Jubileiny sports complex . Lutai's older sister had organized the change to the Mishin's training group. He broke his foot in 2005, an injury that kept handicapping him in later years.

After he had reached the podium for the first time with second place at Russian championships , he made his debut at World and European Championships in 2007 and finished with twentieth and fifth place respectively. The following year he was again Russian runner-up. At the European Championships he was eighth, he did not take part in the World Championships. In 2009 he went to the European Championship as third national and reached seventh place. At the world championship he was tenth.

After finishing tenth in the Skate America Grand Prix competition in November 2009, Lutai was arrested in Lake Placid , New York . He was charged with car theft and drunk driving. Lutai pleaded not guilty. He was released after three days. The Russian Figure Skating Federation banned Lutai for a year, causing him to miss the Vancouver Olympics .

In April 2010 Lutai married the Bulgarian ice dancer Ina Demirewa , sister of the ice dance world champion Albena Denkowa, in Sofia . Their daughter was born in September of the same year. Lutai has lived in Sofia since the beginning of 2010 and trains with his wife and Albena Denkowa and Maxim Stawiski in their figure skating club. Georgi Kentschadze is one of his students .

According to his own statement, Lutai hoped to be able to actively participate in the 2011/12 season again.
