Andrew Hipsher

Andrew "Andy" Hipsher (born August 6, 1980 in Kettering (Ohio) ) is an American basketball coach .

Life

Hipsher wore the colors of the student team of Archbishop Hoban High School ( Ohio ) and from 1999 to 2004 of the University of Akron during his playing career . At Akron he played as a coach under his father Dan. Hipsher, who underwent three back surgeries in college, was a teammate of Romeo Travis and Dru Joyce . With 344 basket assists, Hipsher was fourth in the university team's all-time best list when he left it in 2004. Hipsher earned a university degree in business administration with a focus on marketing.

He began his coaching career at Texas Tech University , where he was an assistant on Bob Knight's staff from 2004 to 2006 . After three months in the coaching staff of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas , Hipsher was assistant coach at Utah Valley University (2006/07 season), from 2007 to 2009 he worked in the same position at Western Michigan University . At the end of August 2009, he joined the staff of the University of South Florida and initially took on administrative tasks. In 2011 he switched to the position of assistant coach. After two years in this post, he accepted an offer from the University of Texas-Pan American (later University of Texas Rio Grande Valley) in 2013 and worked there on the staff of head coach Dan Hipsher, his father. In the spring of 2016, Hipsher the Younger left this post and worked as a self-employed individual trainer for around two years.

In October 2018 he became Simon Cote's assistant coach at the German second division club White Wings Hanau . After a season with Hessen, Hipsher switched to Tigers Tübingen (also 2nd Bundesliga ProA ) during the summer break of 2019 and worked there as Douglas Spradley's assistant . When he was dismissed at the end of December 2019, Hipsher was initially employed as a transition coach, in January 2020 the team management decided to entrust the American with the task of looking after the Tübingen as head coach until the end of the 2019/20 season.
