Andrew Michael Stephenson (born October 8, 1946 in Maracaibo , Venezuela ) is a British science fiction writer and illustrator.

Life

Stephenson came to England at a young age and attended the private St Aubyns School in Rottingdean, East Sussex from 1956 to 1960 , then the Stowe School in Stowe , Buckinghamshire until 1965 . He then studied electrical engineering and electronics at City University in London , where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1969. Until 1976 he worked as a circuit designer at Plessey Telecommunications Research in Taplow , Buckinghamshire. From 1976 to 1978 he was the European Representative of the Science Fiction Writers of America .

In 1971 he published his first SF short story Holding Action in Astounding magazine . The novel Nightwatch followed in 1977, which was also translated into German as Nachtwache . It is about the countermeasures against a feared alien invasion, which then turns out to be friendly contact. His second novel The Wall of Years (1979) is about a war between parallel worlds . He also wrote the script for the four-volume graphic novel Waterloo Sunset (2004-2005).

His illustrations have appeared in the SF magazines Galaxy , SF Digest and Vector .
