Andrzej Górak (born February 15, 1951 in Andrychów , Poland ) is a Polish process engineer and former holder of the chair for fluid process engineering at the Faculty of Biological and Chemical Engineering at the Technical University of Dortmund .

Career

Andrzej Górak studied chemistry from 1968 at the Technical University of Łódź in Poland and graduated in 1973 as a graduate engineer ( mgr. Inc. ). After receiving his doctorate on the rectification of multi-substance mixtures in 1979 at the Institute for Process Engineering at the same university, he worked there as a senior engineer until 1988. This was followed by four years of industrial activity as a research assistant at Henkel KGaA in Düsseldorf. In 1991 Andrzej Górak qualified as a professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University and in the following year became professor at the chair for thermal process engineering at the University of Dortmund. In 1996 he took over the chair for thermal process engineering at the University of Essen . After four years, he returned to Dortmund in 2000 as a professor at the Faculty of Biological and Chemical Engineering. Since 2003 he has also been a professor at the Technical University of Łódź . After Górak had been Dean of the Faculty of Biological and Chemical Engineering since 2009 , he was elected Vice-Rector for Research by the Senate of the Technical University of Dortmund in April 2011 . He held this position until January 2014. In 2010 he was appointed by the Polish Minister of Science as a member of the Council of the National Research and Development Center for the next two years.

Górak's research focuses on the computer-aided simulation and experimental validation of integrated reaction and separation processes, such as reactive rectification and reactive absorption. He also researches hybrid separation processes and the purification of biotechnological products. Professor Górak is the editor of the journal Chemical Engineering And Processing: Process Intensification. On June 29, 2010 he was awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany for his services in the field of international understanding between Poland and Germany. In 2013 he was also awarded the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland by the Polish President. In 2014 he was awarded the Emil Kirschbaum Medal for his outstanding achievements in the field of thermal separation processes, which is awarded by the Association of German Engineers and DECHEMA . Górak is also the editor of a series of three books (Distillation: Fundamentals and Principles, Distillation: Equipment and Processes, and Distillation: Operation and Applications) that provide the largest overview of the rectification thermal separation process ever published. On July 2, 2018, Professor Górak received the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia from the hand of the Minister of Finance on behalf of the Prime Minister. Górak was honored for his special commitment as a promoter of German-Polish relations.
