Andrzej Iwan (born November 10, 1959 in Kraków , Poland ) is a former Polish football player .

Career

Andrzej Iwan played as a striker at the age of 17, the first games in the Polish first division in 1977 at Wisła Krakow . National coach Jacek Gmoch appointed him to the Polish national team for the 1978 World Cup in Argentina at the end of his first season . At that time he was considered to be one of the greatest talents in European football. He played in the opening game of this World Cup against defending champion Germany at this World Cup.

Ivan was noticed in the following years by antics off the field. Alcohol problems and fights in pubs in Krakow led to several expulsions from the team of his club and the national team . In total, he made 29 international matches and scored eleven goals.

He finished his career in Greece with Aris Saloniki . Today he is a player's advisor and places Polish footballers in Swiss and German clubs.

In 2012 he published his autobiography under the title “Im Abseits” ( Spalony ) , in which he devotes a lot of space to his alcoholism .
