Andrew Lee "Andy" Goodrich (* 17th January 1928 in Memphis , Tennessee ; † 19th October 2008 in Bryn Mawr , Pennsylvania ) was an American alto saxophonist of modern jazz and music teacher and university lecturer.

Andy Goodrich is one of the veterans of the Chicago jazz scene. He graduated from Tennessee State University . He then did his military service in Korea and moved to Nashville , where he taught music in public schools for ten years. He was a member of the civil rights movement and moved to Michigan State University , where he received his doctorate in 1969; he then worked as a lecturer at the University of Maryland . Goodrich was the teacher of Booker Little , Charles Lloyd, and Harold Mabern . With Robert Harris he created the first African-American music evening college program at Michigan State University. He later moved to Chicago and, after retiring from teaching in the 1990s, focused on working as a musician again. It was not until 1996 that a first album was created under his own name, Motherless Child, on the Chicago label Delmark with Eddie Henderson , Harold Mabern, James Williams , Buster Williams and Billy Hart .

Goodrich's saxophone style is influenced by Eddie Vinson , Charlie Parker , Sonny Stitt, and Benny Carter .
