Andy Wilson (born May 1, 1958 in London ) is an English television and theater director and screenwriter .

life and career

Andy Wilson began his theater career as a clown at Circus Lumière and Cirque Archaos, two French circus companies, as well as in the alternative theater scene. From 1976 to 1979 he completed a theater degree at the University of Birmingham . He then worked for three years as an actor and director a. a. at the Rational Theater and the Hidden Grin Theater, both London theaters that have toured the UK and Europe with their productions.

From 1984 he directed various English and French TV shows, made music videos and wrote his first scripts. In 1989 he directed the French TV film Bouinax in Love for La Sept about the Archaos circus troupe. As a result, there was intensive collaboration with British television stations, for which he was primarily active as a director in television series. I.a. he shot individual episodes of Fitz (1993), Gormenghast (2000) , Spooks - In the Visor of MI5 (2002), The Philanthropist , Agatha Christie's Poirot (2004, 2006, 2013), Sindbad (2012), The Young Inspector Morse (2014, 2018), the episode "The Man Who Smiled" in Wallander with Kenneth Branagh in the title role. Other series followed, including Ripper Street (2013, 2014), World on Fire (2019) and most recently Unforgotten (2020). His oeuvre includes more than two dozen productions.
