Anesthesy was a Belgian thrash and death metal band from Kortrijk , which was founded in 1985 under the name Vendetta and disbanded in 2001. Since the breakup, the band got together every now and then to play a few concerts.

history

The band was formed in 1985. Since a German band of the same name already existed, the group changed its name to Anesthesy in mid-1988. At this time, the groups were looking for a new singer to replace Stefaan "Stef" Deldaele. Towards the end of the year, the group found a suitable replacement in Stefaan Vanijzere. The other members were guitarists Franky Libeert and Christophe “fabrics” Decaesteker, bassist Chris Decaesteker and drummer Ringo Remmery. After only a few appearances, Deldaele left the band on May 19, 1989, followed by Christophe Decaesteker on May 27. Since no suitable replacement was found, Libeert also took over the role of singer.

From July 21st to 24th, the group went to the Mix Studio in Kortrijk to record the first demo Overdose . Stefaan Deldaele , who was also the old singer of the band when it was still called Vendetta, worked as a producer . This was followed by appearances, whereby CMFT Records became aware of the band in March 1990 and signed them. The recordings took place in the Square Studio . Even before the debut album Just Married was released, CMFT Records went bankrupt, so that the record was never released. On October 20, 1990, drummer Remery left the band and was replaced by Diëgo Denorme. On December 15th, a performance with Thyrus followed in Aalst . Further appearances followed in 1991: On April 21, the band played with Asphyxia and Cyclone in Moorsel . At the beginning of March 1992 the band went to the CCR Studio to re-record six of the nine songs that had emerged from the recording sessions for Just Married and to release it as an EP of the same name that same year. Shortly after the release, Werner Vanlaere joined the band as another guitarist. In early 1993 the band signed a contract with Tessa Records . The group was heard on Tessa Records compilation Detonation , which also featured bands like Ancient Rites . The recordings for the debut album Survival of the Fittest between September 20 and October 8, 1993 there. André Gielen worked as producer , Tony De Block mixed the album. On February 6, 1993 the band played a concert in Sint-Lievens-Houtem together with Asphyxia, Channel Zero , Exoto and Lethal Impact , which was followed by another appearance in Vichte with Stone Cold & Crazy on July 17 . The band named their album Survival of the Fittest in Exaltation of the Eclipse and eventually released it early 1994. Later left bassist Chris Decaesteker and was replaced by ex-Vendetta singer Stefaan Vanijzere. The group reached a deal with Black Mark Production , which should release three albums over the next five years. This included a re-release of Exaltation of the Eclipse .

After further appearances followed in 1994, Stefaan Vanijzere and Franky Libeert became involved. Vanijzere was critically injured, while Libeert did not survive the accident. In 1996 Vanlaere, Deldaele and Denorme decided to continue the band in honor of Libeert. Sven Houfflijn and guitarist David Vandewalle joined the line-up as new members. In the same year the bands also played other concerts. Together they took with session guitarist Guy Commeene. The Fifth Season was recorded at Midas Studio in Lokeren and was produced by Tony De Block. The album was released on Midas Productions in 1998 . A little later guitarist Vanlaere left the band, so that Commeene was accepted as a permanent member of the group. Further changes in the line-up followed: guitarist David Vandewalle was replaced by Jason Masschelein and Wouter Nottebaert took Stefaan Vanijzere's position as bassist. This new line-up recorded a promo album in 1999 called Chaos Path , which was initially called Let the Mayhem Begin . The album was sent to various labels and magazines. Further live performances followed. At the beginning of 2000 guitarist Jason Masschelein was replaced by Reinier Schenk (Ex-Battalion, Ex- Yosh ). In the middle of the year bassist Nottebaert left the band. After Sven Houfflijn and guitarist Reinier Schenk joined this singer, the band broke up.

A few years later, the members of the recording session for Chaos Path came back together to play together again. After that, the group decided to perform together again for a short time. The group played among other things at the Metal Assault in Wevelgem on July 10, 2004, at which bands like Caducity and Leptotrichia were also represented. During these performances, Chaos Path was also available to the public.

In April 2001 Guy Commeene and Diëgo Denorme founded the band Artrac. Wouter Nottebaert and David Vandewalle also joined the band in 2004. Singer Sven Houfflijn briefly joined Impedigon and then joined Fleshmould , a technical death metal band that guitarist Reinier Schenk had founded in 2000.

style

The band plays a mixture of death and thrash metal, which is described by bands like Protector or Messiah in their middle phase. The music is technically demanding. The guitar riffs are reminiscent of bands like Benediction and Bolt Thrower .
