from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anette Rein (born April 15, 1955 in Wiesbaden ) is a German ethnologist and adult educator. From 2000 to 2008 she was director of the Museum of World Cultures in Frankfurt am Main . Since 2009 she has been teaching as a lecturer alternately at different universities in the subject of ethnology and offers workshops on various thematic focal points using the method of “creative writing and scientific thinking”. In addition, she works as a specialist journalist and regularly publishes articles on various fields of activity in museums.

Life

Anette Rein completed her studies at the Free University of Berlin and the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. Her major was ethnology, the minor subjects of education with a focus on adult education, sociology and ancient American studies.

From 1976 to 1985 she was a freelancer at the Museum für Völkerkunde West Berlin. After that, she spent two years in Bali to study . From 1988 she worked for six years as a research assistant at the Institute for Ethnology and African Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. In 1994 she was a short-term lecturer (DAAD) at the Universitas Nusa Cendana in Kupang on Timor (Indonesia). She then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Ethnology at the University of Leipzig until 2000 . Rein was also co-founder of the Center for Women and Gender Studies in Leipzig and co-editor of the book series Women and Men Cultures at Lit-Verlag.

From 2000 to 2008 she was director of the Frankfurt Museum of World Cultures . In September 2008 she resigned from her position because the city of Frankfurt and Ms. Rein had "irreconcilable differences" regarding the future design of the museum. While Rein saw the museum as a forum for inter- and transcultural encounters, the head of the cultural affairs department, Felix Semmelroth , called for greater concentration on the exhibition of objects from the fund.
