Jørgen Landt (* approx. 1751 in Vissenbjerg on Funen , Denmark; † June 26, 1804 in Olsker on Bornholm ) was a Danish pastor , botanist and Faroe explorer .

Landt was the son of Jørgen Jørgensen (Madsen) (1724–56), community servant in Vissenberg, and Anna Dorothea Jørgensdatter Landt (* approx. 1732). He lost his father early on and grew up with his paternal uncle, who was a priest in Hesselager on Funen. From 1777 he was a private tutor for 14 years, partly in Copenhagen, partly in Frederiksborg . He was particularly interested in botany .

In 1791 Jørgen Landt was appointed pastor to the Faroe Islands, where he was responsible for the parish of Nordstreymoy . On behalf of the Natural History Society of Denmark, he collected the various natural products from the Faroe Islands. He also campaigned for horticulture. He was married to the Faroese Anna (Anneke) Hedevig, born Djurhuus (born November 26, 1770 in Nes (Eysturoy) ; † June 9, 1841 in Copenhagen), a daughter of Johan Christian Djurhuus and Maria Rønning , since 1792 .

After seven years, he had to give up his work as a pastor in the Faroe Islands in 1798 because he was unable to walk the difficult mountain paths to the parishes due to a knee injury.

Back in Denmark he worked on his book on the Faroe Islands, which appeared in 1800 under the title Forsøg til en Beskrivelse over Færøerne (“An attempt to describe the Faroe Islands”). The English translation appeared in 1810, and the book was to remain the standard work on the geography and nature of the Faroe Islands for many decades.

He relied on the then unpublished notes by Nicolai Mohr (approx. 1775–78) and Jens Christian Svabos Indberetninger fra en Rejse til Færø (1781 and 1782). Mohr described 25 plant species, Svabo 100. In Landt there are 203 other species.

In 1799 Landt became parish priest on Bornholm (parish of Olkser and Allinge), where he died in 1804.
