Hanus Kamban (born June 25, 1942 in Saltangará , Faroe Islands as Hanus Andreassen ), name change in 2000, is a Faroese writer , publicist, publisher and translator.

Hanus is the son of the teacher couple Petur Andreassen from Velbastaður and Elisabeth, née Kamban from Tórshavn . He grew up with his parents on the island of Skúgvoy . In 1956 they moved to Tórshavn, where he graduated from high school in 1960. He then worked as a substitute teacher and worker until he attended the Eurocentre in Bournemouth from 1964–65 and studied English and German at the Copenhagen College from 1966–68 . Because of the student unrest, he broke off his studies. 1967-69 he was editor of the magazine Fjølnir and then co-editor of Oyggjaskeggja . In 1975 he finished his training as a nurse.

Hanus Andreassen made his debut in 1976 with the short story Undir tínum veingjabreiði (Under Your Wings ), which was published in German in 2006, and was chairman of the Faroese Writers' Union from 1992-94 . His most important work is the monumental biography of Janus Djurhuus , which was translated into Danish in 2001 by his wife Kirsten Brix . The three-volume work (Danish edition: 2 volumes) is at the same time a kind of literary history of the Faroe Islands from the 19th to the middle of the 20th century.

In 1980 Hanus Andreassen received the Faroe Islands Literature Prize for specialist literature and in 1986 the same prize, but this time in the category of fiction . At the Listastevna Føroya (Faroe Islands Art Meeting ) 2001 he won the short story competition with Angels Place . In 2003 he was nominated for the short story book Pílagrímar (The Pilgrims, 2001) for the Literature Prize of the Nordic Council , which he did not receive. The Faroe Islands Culture Prize ( Mentanarvirðisløn Landsins ), endowed with 150,000 crowns, followed in 2004 for his oeuvre, highlighting the above. Djurhuus biography.
