Felix Semmelroth (born August 30, 1949 in Kassel ) a German cultural scientist and former cultural department head of the city of Frankfurt am Main . Until 2019 he was anti-Semitism officer of the Hessian state government .

Life

Semmelroth studied English , literature and political science . He then worked for Radio Bremen and at the Technical University of Darmstadt , where he has been an honorary professor for English literature since 1998 .

In 1989, the head of the cultural department, Hilmar Hoffmann, brought Semmelroth to the Frankfurt cultural department as a speaker for literature and fundamental issues. From 1996 he was an advisor to the city's mayor, Petra Roth ; from 1999 he worked as her office manager.

Since July 2006 he has been the elected head of the cultural department and successor to Hans-Bernhard Nordhoff. Shortly before, he resigned from the SPD and became a party member of the CDU . Since the previous black-green coalition in Frankfurt's Römer could no longer be continued in 2016 due to a new majority and the CDU had to hand over the cultural department to its new coalition partner, the SPD, Semmelroth announced his resignation on July 1, 2016 at the beginning of May 2016. His successor is in office Ina Hartwig from the SPD.
