Angel Balewski

Angel Tonschew Balewski ( Bulgarian Ангел Тончев Ба̀левски ; born April 15, 1910 in Trojan , Tsarist Bulgaria ; † September 15, 1997 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian politician and engineer.

Life

He studied mechanical engineering in Brno and in 1945 became a professor at the State Polytechnic. In 1967 he became director of the Institute of Metallurgy and Technology of Metals. In 1968 he took over the presidency of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences , which he held until 1988. He was also a member of several foreign academies.

He dealt with metal testing and wrote papers on the properties of metals. He developed several patents for processes in foundry technology and developed a process for extracting cast iron in short rotary kilns .

Balewski was a member of the Bulgarian Communist Party . From 1966 he was a member of the party's central committee . From 1971 he was a member of the Bulgarian State Council .

He was the bearer of the Georgi Dimitrov order and received the Dimitrov Prize .
