Angela Steinbach (born March 31, 1955 in Kleve ) is a former German swimmer who competed for the Federal Republic of Germany . She won an Olympic bronze medal in 1972.

Career

Swimming career

Angela Steinbach began her swimming career at CSV Kleve. She started from 1970 to 1973 for the DSV School Max Ritter Saarbrücken , from 1973 to 1975 she joined DSW 1912 Darmstadt , after which she moved to the SSF Bonn 05 .

She qualified for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , where she was the final swimmer in the German 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay. In the line-up of Jutta Weber , Heidemarie Reineck , Gudrun Beckmann and Angela Steinbach, the season won bronze behind the seasons from the USA and the GDR . In 1973 the first swimming world championship took place in Belgrade . The freestyle relay won bronze in the same line-up as in Munich behind the GDR and the USA. At the German Swimming Championships in 1974 Steinbach won the title over 100 meters freestyle.

Private career

Angela Steinbach is the sister of the swimmer Klaus Steinbach . She married the swimmer Jürgen Könneker . Both sons Axel and Robert Könneker are also successful swimmers.
