Gudrun Beckmann (born August 17, 1955 in Düsseldorf ) is a former German swimmer who competed for the Federal Republic of Germany . She won two Olympic bronze medals in 1972.

Life

Gudrun Beckmann started for the DSV School Max Ritter Saarbrücken until 1975 and then switched to SSF Bonn . At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, she improved the (West) German record over 100 meters butterfly to 1: 04.15 minutes and was seventh. The German 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay with Jutta Weber , Heidemarie Reineck , Gudrun Beckmann and Angela Steinbach won bronze behind the relay teams from the USA and the GDR . She also won bronze with the 4 × 100-meter layer relay made up of Silke Pielen , Verena Eberle , Gudrun Beckmann and Heidemarie Reineck.

In 1973 the first swimming world championship took place in Belgrade . The freestyle relay won bronze in the same line-up as in Munich behind the GDR and the USA. After a sixth place in the 100 meter butterfly, she won a second bronze medal with the tier relay made up of Angelika Grieser , Petra Nows , Gudrun Beckmann and Jutta Weber. At the 1974 European Championships in Vienna and at the 1975 World Swimming Championships in Cali , Beckmann was seventh over the 100 meter butterfly. In 1976 at the Olympic Games in Montreal Beckmann did not reach the final and also retired with the layer relay in the preliminary run. In the freestyle relay, it was only used in the lead-up.

She was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf on September 11, 1972 for her athletic achievements.

Gudrun Beckmann became German champion over 100 meters butterfly in 1973 , 1974 , 1975 and 1977 .
