Petra Nows

Petra Nows (born June 23, 1953 in Duisburg ) is a German swimmer and Olympic participant. The 1.77 m tall and 75 kg heavy athlete started for Duisburger SV 98 and Blau-Weiß Bochum .

At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich she started over 200 m breaststroke and took a respectable 5th place in 2: 43.38 minutes (for a medal she should have been exactly one second faster).

Her year of success was 1973, when she not only became German champion in the 100 and 200 m breaststroke, but also successfully participated in the World Championships in Belgrade . She was able to qualify for the finals in the individual competitions over 100 and 200 m breaststroke and won bronze over 4 × 100 m medley (team: Angelika Grieser , Petra Nows, Gudrun Beckmann and Jutta Weber ). Gold and silver went to the teams from the GDR and the USA .
