Angelbowege

Angelbowege and Ochsenweg in Schleswig

The Angelbowege (Danish: angelbo ≈ Angeliter) were historical cross-country roads in east-west direction, which connected the fishing landscape with the north-south Ochsenweg between Schleswig and Flensburg . Today we know five land-side entrances of this type that lead into fishing.

Some can still be traced in the landscape, for example the old path from the Treenefurt near Tüdal (Danish: Tydal ) to the crossroads with the Ochsenweg in Sieverstedt . Angelboweg is still an official street name in the Stenderupau district. This route led eastwards via Satrup and Sörup to the Flensburg Outer Fjord .

In Flensburg , the street name Angelburger Strasse is possibly a folk etymological remodeling of the Danish Angelbogade "Angelbostrasse, angeliter Strasse".
