Angelika Schmidt-Koddenberg

Angelika Schmidt-Koddenberg (nee Schmidt; * 1955 ) is a German sociologist and university professor with a research focus on gender relations, migration and integration, and the public engagement of women.

Life

Angelika Schmidt studied economics and sociology at the University of Cologne from 1974 to 1980 . In 1988 she did her doctorate at the same university in economic and social psychology with a dissertation on the subject of acculturation of migrant women. A study on the importance of social comparison processes between German and Turkish women .

From 1981 she worked in the context of university and non-university research at the University of Cologne, the University of Essen , the Catholic University of North Rhine-Westphalia ( KatHO NRW ) and the research institute of TÜV Rheinland . From 1991 to 1994 she worked as a freelancer for women's associations and in adult education. From 1994 to 1995 she was an associate member of the DFG graduate college “Gender Relations and Social Change. Scope of action and the power of definition for women ”at the University of Dortmund and from 1995 to 1996 project manager of the federal model project“ Women in Political Honor ”of the Jakob Kaiser Foundation in Königswinter .

Angelika Schmidt-Koddenberg has been Professor of Sociology at the Catholic University of North Rhine-Westphalia since 1997, initially in the Aachen department and since 2004 in the Cologne department. From 2000 to 2004 she was Vice Rector of this university, from 2004 to 2006 as Vice Rector for Research & Continuing Education, and since 2006 she has been the spokesperson for the research focus on gender and transculturality.

Angelika Schmidt-Koddenberg is married to the teacher and adult educator Kurt Koddenberg and lives in Cologne.

Honors

Angelika Schmidt-Koddenberg was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit in 2009 for her services as chairwoman of the sociopolitical commission of the KDFB Federal Association.
