Angelika Steger (born June 13, 1962 in Munich ) is a German mathematician and computer scientist who deals with discrete mathematics .

From 1981, Steger studied mathematics at the University of Freiburg , the University of Heidelberg and the State University of New York at Stony Brook , where she received her master's degree in 1985. In 1990 she received her doctorate from the University of Bonn (Research Institute for Discrete Mathematics) with Hans Jürgen Prömel ( The Kleitman-Rothschild Method ) and qualified there in 1994 (Asymptotic properties of H-free graphs). Afterwards she was visiting professor in Kiel and in 1995 became professor for discrete mathematics at the University of Duisburg , 1996 professor for theoretical computer science at the Technical University of Munich and since 2003 full professor for theoretical computer science at the ETH Zurich .

It deals with graph theory , combinatorics , probabilistic and randomized algorithms, combinatorial optimization and approximation algorithms .

In 2014 she was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Seoul (The determinism of randomness and its use in combinatorics). In 2007 she became a member of the Leopoldina . In 2005 she became a member of the Research Council of the Swiss National Science Foundation . From 2009 to 2016 she was a fellow of the Collegium Helveticum .
