Angelo Maria Scaccia (* around 1690 in Milan , † on September 29, 1761 ibid) was an Italian composer and violinist of the late Baroque.

Life

Angelo Maria Scaccia was born the son of the violinist Carlo Federico Scaccia († 1751). He received his first musical training from his father, in order to avoid confusion, he was initially called Scacchino . He was first mentioned in writing in 1711, as a member of a larger orchestra composed of 60 Milanese musicians, during the celebration of the transfer of a relic of St. Gaudenzio di Novara (327-418) to the Basilica of San Gaudenzio of Novara under the direction of Giuseppe Sammartini played. In 1720 Scaccia was mentioned as a violinist at the Teatro Regio Ducale in a list of 30 virtuosi instrumentali , only to be mentioned again as part leader of the second violins in 1748. In 1751 he succeeded his father as ducal violinist and received the patente di violinista from the duke . He remained in this office until his death in 1751.

Works (selection)

Scaccia left a total of fourteen violin concertos; these concertos follow the example of Antonio Vivaldi , but show frequent changes between solos and tutti and are all held in major keys. His Opus 1 with six concerts was published by Michel-Charles Le Cène in Amsterdam around 1730 ; they are considered the first violin concertos to be published by a Milanese composer. In 1736 six more works were published in Amsterdam, the Concerto a cinque stromenti con a violino principale Op. 2. Further works are 6 Concerti a quattro (1730). Most of the other surviving works are distributed among various manuscript collections, including the concerts of the collector and patron Pierre Philibert de Blancheton in the library of the Paris Conservatory , included in the Blancheton Fund .
