Angelos Giallinas: View of Constantinople

Angelos Giallinas ( Greek Άγγελος Γιαλλινάς ; * March 5, 1857 in Corfu ; † 1939 in Corfu) was a Greek watercolor painter .

Giallinas took painting lessons at the art school of Corfu from 1872 to 1875. He was a student of Charalampos Pachis . He later studied painting in Venice , Naples and Rome . In Italy he also turned to watercolor painting. In 1878 he returned to his home island. In his watercolor paintings he only depicted landscapes and gained international recognition for them. Giallina's paintings have been shown in numerous Greek and international art exhibitions .

The National Gallery of Greece honored him in 1974 with a major retrospective . Giallina's landscapes impress with their rich and soft color gradations and perfect reproduction of characteristic details without being photographic images. As a result, his pictures occupy a special position between the Munich school of academic Greek painting and that of the Ionic school of painting .

Art theft 2010

In 2010, an unknown number of Giallinas' paintings from Villa Giallinas in Corfu Town were stolen from a sealed storage room.
