Angkor Wat was an American crossover band from Corpus Christi , Texas that was formed in 1986 and disbanded in 1991.

history

The band was formed in 1986. In the summer of 1988 the band went on a tour of the southern United States with Tyrranicide and another with Cryptic Slaughter . In the same year the band could also be heard on the samplers Satan's Revenge II , Thrash Metal Attack II and with the song Emotional Blackmail on the metal blade sampler Complete Death II . In 1989, Metal Blade Records released their debut album When Obscenity Becomes the Norm… Awake! , followed by Corpus Christi in 1990 . Both albums were produced by Kerry Crafton . On the first album, the band consisted of bassist Mike "Titty" Titsworth, drummer Dave "Bambi" Nuss, guitarists Adam "(King) Bunnie" Grossman and Danny "Edith Bunker" Lohner, and singer Dave "Dee" Brinkam. On the second album, Lohner and Grossman shared the role of bass player, with Grossman also taking on the role of singer. Since some members decided to found the band Skrew in 1991, the band broke up. The Skrew album Burning in Water, Drowning in Flame was recorded by Angkor Wat in 1990. Since this material was too different from the previous material due to the electronic influences, some members decided to found a new band.

style

According to Andrea Nieradzik from Metal Hammer , the band on Corpus Christi plays a varied mixture of metal and hardcore punk . According to thethrashmetalguide.com , the band plays on When Obscenity Becomes the Norm… Awake! a mixture of Thrash Metal and Hardcore Punk. The singing sounds hysterical and is shouted . The texts on Corpus Christi are more serious than on their predecessor. There is technically demanding Thrash Metal on the album. In addition, elements from industrial metal would be incorporated, so that a comparison to the first Skrew albums comes close.
