Anil Biswas (politician)

Anil Biswas (called Keru , Bengali : অনিল বিশ্বাস , Anil Biśbās; born March 1, 1944 in a village near Karimpur in the Nadia district ; † March 26, 2006 in Kolkata ) was an Indian politician.

He had been active in the student movement since 1962 and was imprisoned for 11 months in 1965. In the same year he joined the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI (M)). In 1966, Biswas earned his master's degree in political science from Calcutta University . Since 1969 he was a full-time party member and journalist at the party organ Ganashakti . During the state of emergency under Indira Gandhi in 1975/76, he worked underground.

In 1978 Anil Biswas became a member of the State Committee of the CPI (M) of West Bengal ( West Bengal State Committee ) and has worked in the State Secretariat for Chief Minister Jyoti Basu since 1982 . He became a member of the central committee of his party in 1983. From 1983 to 1998 he also acted as editor of the communist party organ Ganashakti .

Biswas was elected to the Politburo of the CPI (M) in 1998 and took over the office of Secretary of the West Bengal State Committee of his party, which he held until his death. Biswas was considered one of the main strategists of his party and published several writings, especially on international issues. He has participated in overseas trips to Russia, China, North Korea, Bangladesh, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Biswas died of a stroke he suffered on March 18, 2006.
