Animals' Angels e. V. is a non-profit German animal welfare and animal rights organization based in Frankfurt am Main . The association, founded in 1998, campaigns for so-called farm animals around the world , in particular for the protection of animals during transport .

The Union

Animals' Angels e. V. was founded in 1998 by Christa Blanke and Michael Blanke. The club's motto is "We are with the animals". The reason for the establishment was the media reports in the 1990s about the conditions for the animals during the transports , especially from northern to southern Europe to the local slaughterhouses or loading ports for onward transport to non- EU countries in the Mediterranean area.

Club goal

Animals' Angels advocates the enforcement of existing animal protection laws and the adoption of stricter animal protection regulations. The work of the association is aimed directly at stricter control or the abolition of long-term transports of livestock and, in the long term, the emergence of a new ethic for the human-animal relationship.

ethics

Animals' Angels advocates that animals be treated as living beings with their own rights , proclaims the rights of animals to life , freedom and happiness , and sees the fight for animal rights as being equivalent to the fight for human rights .

Memberships

In 2005, the association joined the EU's advisory group on the food chain and animal and plant health as the first animal welfare organization .

Fields of activity and way of working

Animals' Angels is currently working in Germany , the EU , North Africa , Asia and Australia . In 2014 the association was active in a total of 14 countries worldwide.

The way the association works corresponds to the association's motto "We are with the animals". The main part of the work takes place directly on site. So-called emergency teams research and document the conditions under which farm animals are transported commercially. To do this, they follow animal transports and are present at animal markets, in slaughterhouses, at ports as well as supply and border stations.

The research results recorded in writing, photos and films are passed on to the responsible authorities and presented to relevant specialist institutions and political decision-makers in order to lodge complaints, report reports or take further measures.

The results of the research are regularly published on the association's website.

Petitions

At the beginning of 2011, the association began to support the Europe-wide initiative 8hours of the Danish EU parliamentarian Dan Jørgensen and initiated a Europe-wide collection of signatures, which was signed by 1.1 million EU citizens by May 2012. The 8hours initiative aims to reduce the transport times of live animals within the EU to a maximum of 8 hours. The petition has been in the European Parliament's Committee on Petitions since March 2014 and is currently being examined by the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, among others.
