occupation

Aningaaq is a short film from 2013. It was created in addition to the film Gravity .

action

The Greenland fisherman Aningaaq fishes in an icy fjord near Qaarsut . Suddenly a woman's voice answers on the radio that he is carrying. The female voice asks for help, calls SOS and Mayday and directs its radio messages to "Houston". The fisherman cannot understand a word, instead tells about his old and sick dog Naanak and then hums a lullaby to his crying baby. When the radio signals fall silent, the fisherman turns away and shoots his dog.

background

The short film plays parallel to the position in the film Gravity , while Dr. Ryan Stone sends an SOS signal from her Soyuz capsule to Earth. Instead of an answer, she hears an incomprehensible speech, a howling dog and a crying baby.

The short film should originally have appeared in the credits of the film Gravity. However, it was decided to publish it separately. Occasionally it is shown after the film Gravity, including at the world premiere in Venice. The writer and director Jonás Cuarón is the son of the gravity director Alfonso Cuarón .

Individual evidence

  1. The name of the fictional fjord in the film is Sikvivitsoq , although the letter combination kv is not possible in Greenlandic.
