The anise-bedstraw ( Galium verrucosum ), also Warzenfrüchtiges bedstraw , belongs within the family of the redness plants (Rubiaceae) to the genus Galium ( Galium ).

The anise bedstraw is a 5 to 20 centimeter high thermophyte branched from the base . The stem is rough. The leaves are 0.5 to 1.5 inches long and 1.5 to 5 millimeters wide. They are rough on the edge with forward-facing spines, and they stand in five- to six-fold whorls .

Flowering period extends from June to July. The partial inflorescences are one to three-flowered, shorter than the leaf whorl, and bent downwards after flowering. The corolla is yellowish white to white, and it has a diameter of 2 to 2.5 millimeters. The fruits are 0.5 to 0.6 inches long and densely covered with white, blistered warts. The fruit stalks are curved down.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22 or 44.

Distribution and locations in Central Europe

The main distribution area of ​​the anise bedstraw extends from the Mediterranean area to the Middle East . It often grows in grain fields, less often on fallow land and in wasteland. Occasionally it occurs in Saxony and Brandenburg as well as at the foot of the Alps, such as the Bergamasque Alps . Often the species occurs on loose and nevertheless clayey or clayey-sandy soils in climate-favored areas. It is probably a species of the Secalietea class.
